The Scoop
February 2016

Hello, February! Yes, this year is a Leap Year! February 29th is Leap Day, adding one extra day to 2016. This extra day makes the year 366 days long - and not 365 days, like a common year... so to all the people born on February 29th, don't view it as being cheated out of a birthday; consider this your chronological youth, staying younger longer!!

This month, we also get to celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14th. "Love Day" - The first valentine card on record was sent in 1806, and the tradition is still going strong today. Not only are Valentine's Day cards and quotes easy ways to show your love, but they're one of the most personal and beautiful ways to express your feelings. Poets, authors, and playwrights have dedicated their work to capturing love in words for thousands of years.

But love doesn't start or stop with a card or the phrase "I love you." Love is feeling, an action that is not dedicated to just one. There are many loves that we are capable of having... our spouses or life partners, our children, our parents, our pets, our friends, and our passions. It's a very long list.

One very important part of love is acceptance. A true love for a child, partner, friend, etc., is allowing them to have total freedom to be who they are while recognizing who they are without judgment. Real love amounts to letting the people in your life be who they need to be. Love doesn't make the world go round; love is what makes the ride worthwhile.

Happy Valentines Day!

January Kick Off Event at Epcot Was Out of This World!

With a theme of "Around the World with FSA," January's Kick Off event was at the very least, out of the box, and more like out of this world!!

Set in Disney's Epcot Center, the perfect backdrop for the global theme, attendees had the opportunity to visit 23 extraordinary exhibiting vendors. First-rate treatments were provided for luxurious spa experiences. Guests were also given a "world passport" and turned in their "stamped" passports for a drawing, with exciting prizes contributed by FSA's vendors. Deluxe travel bags, sponsored by Farm House Fresh Goods, were provided to all guests. In addition, there was a variety of products, goodies, and samples at vendor tables.

Thank you so much to all of these wonderful vendors! It was great to see old friends and make new ones!

Attendees represented some of the best spas in Florida, and the turnout was BIG. Over 110 guests attended!

The day began with the vendor exhibit and treatments. During a delicious lunch of a healthy salad bar, sandwiches, soups and no-sugar-added lemon crinkle cookies, Maureen Vipperman from The Opal Collection, delivered an entertaining and educational presentation on Global Spa Trends for 2016. Maureen was exciting to watch, and really gave us something to think about when it comes to what consumers are expecting, and even not expecting, but will be delighted by in the future.

Post-lunch discussion round tables were set up for attendees to address issues such as:

  1. Managing A Multi-Cultural Workforce
  2. Treating a Culturally Diverse Client Base
  3. Authentic but Indigenous Spa Treatments
  4. International Spa Trends to Consider
  5. Cultural Blunders

After a celebratory cocktail, attendees and vendors were able to enter the Epcot Theme Park and visit each country's exhibit and tour the world. Everyone met up at the British Pub in the UK for the best fish and chips this side of the pond, flights of Scotch, draft beer, and wine. After the always-impressive Epcot fireworks, everyone made their way out of the park, exhausted but exhilarated from a full day of networking and learning, but inspired for the year to come. Everyone was joyously on Top of the World!

What's the Word?

Hello, everyone! I'm Susie Kuse with Spa Copy.

After 13 years in the spa world, I've mingled my spa career with my first love, writing. I love writing about spas, spa environments, spa treatments and products, and the spa lifestyle!

But here, as part of the Florida Spa Association's educational program, I can teach YOU about writing. You can have the most beautiful spa, the best treatments and equipment, and the most amazing therapists. You can relieve stress, boost self-esteem, improve skin, and relieve muscle aches and pains. You can show and teach people to live a healthier, more fulfilling life - and that needs to be expressed. If you can't express that to your target audience, NO ONE WILL KNOW.

I can show you how...and can't wait to share some easy tips that will make your communication reflect the real you. And if you hate writing or feel you don't do it well, don't worry. These tips are all easy. It all gets easier from there.

Fall in Love with Generating Leads

By Dori Soukup

As I consult with spa owners, the one thing I often find missing is a lead generation strategy and the lack of focus on lead generation and nurturing leads. How about you? Do you have a strategy to lead traffic to the spa and cause the phone to ring?

Have a Question?
